A 20th century hand engraved with four polo ponies 100 percent lead crystal vase hand engraved English 20th century 429 Frank Ashley Nelson American 1920-2007 Original watercolour on paper polo playing He was one of the finest representational artists of American Art. A resident of Carmel and Monterey, California for the past few decades. He was represented for over 50 years by the Zantman art gallery. He served combat duty in England as a B 17 pilot, completing 25 missions. He was awarded two distinguished flying crosses, a purple heart and four air medals. He was discharged as a captain and after world war two he studied art at the academy of art in Chicago, then the Minneapolis art institute and the art student’s league in New York.
